Why You Should Be Home For Your Estimate

Why be home for your estimate:

When getting a painting estimate or an estimate for work around your home
for that matter it is important to be able to let the estimator know what you
expect when the project is done.

You may say why? Each job no matter who I use should be prepared,
painted and done the same but that is further from the truth then you would know.

There is not a specific standard of work from company to company and
most painting projects have very
different levels of service for the same thing, for instance spackling.

Preparation Of Surfaces

You can spackle a wall with many different levels of quality, from low to high
and somewhere in the middle is typical, but if you think they are doing it to perfection and they
are thinking the opposite,
it doesn’t mean they did a bad job, it was a missed expectation not explained
by the painter or asked for by the homeowner.

The same goes for exterior preparation work such as scraping peeling paint, under
most circumstances work is done by preservation techniques,
meaning loose paint is scrapped,
some caulking may be done,
usually bare wood is pot primed but then it is painted. If you're thinking the surface
will be completely smooth you
will be very upset with the final appearance. It will certainly how old levels of paint,
uneven surfaces and more, without stripping the entire surface you
will not get a level surface
under a normal repaint project.

The Estimate

I cannot tell you how many times I have gone out for an estimate and the person
who ultimately would be critiquing the work was not there,
leaving it to another person to try
to explain what they wanted to be done
or no one at all was home. These projects go bad 9 out of ten times.

Comments like bad quality, not enough prep or scrapping are mentioned when
in reality it was a mixed expectation or an expectation
that could never be met with a normal repaint.

So what to do? It’s simple be home, if you cannot be home at the least have
a conversation with the estimator and create a detailed list,
then its possible this can be matched
up with the estimator's
notes and work order.

We have actually implemented a policy that we will not go out on an estimate
unless the decision make will be onsite, this may cost us
a few estimates opportunities
but in the long run, it is better
to have less work
than clients who are upset with the quality of the work from missed expectations.

The number one thing that turns a new project bad is missed expectations,
it always comes down to this, when we look back at a bad
project or one that turned bad.

Why paint your home neutral when your selling it?

Why paint your home neutral when preparing to sell

It’s time to sell your home and the real estate agent comes in and gives
recommendations and the one we hear all the time is to paint your home a neutral color.

You just spent a lot of money putting custom colors and accent walls all over and you may
feel this is crazy but let me explain why this is the most important thing you could do to select
your home.

Colors invoke many feelings in people, happiness, calm, anger, when you painted that accent
wall a bright red and you love it, it may bring up a bad feeling for a prospective buyer on that
walkthrough, using a neutral color will be much more appealing and less likely to bring up any
bad emotions to any prospective buyers.

It also allows buyers to visualize a blank space where they can dream about the colors they
will add to the home.

Color Psychology

Color psychology is the study of emotional cues  (www.howstuffworks.com) prompted in humans by various colors. These can be quite strong. Bold yellow can upset young children , while light yellow is commonly used in babies rooms  These are important things to remember when preparing your home for sale.

Neutral colors will make your home the most desirable to as many people as possible and
that at the name of the game.

It can be hard to visualize your home in a different way then you have been accustomed to.

What are the neutral paint colors?

Neutral colors are light to medium colors that can work well in the backdrop of other
furnishings and accents.

They can be a grey blend such as greige
Before picking a neutral paint color for walls, decide if a warm or cool color matches
the ambiance of the space. Think about the neutral feel of the personality of your house.
Then look at the homes permanent fixtures such as flooring, or cabinets. What colors are they?
Are they warm or cool tones.

Is it worth painting before selling?

Is it worth painting a house before selling? (Www.listwatcher.com)
It is absolutely worth painting a house before selling. A light fresh paint job is one of the
most inexpensive, efficient and easiest ways to give a house a complete facelift, open up
space and help your house sell quicker for a better price.

Colors also have connections, good and bad. It could remind you of a bad experience or a good
one, it is better to remove these and stick to a neutral color.

How much is an epoxy garage floor?

So you want an epoxy floor?

An epoxy floor for your garage or business can dramatically change the look of your space plus adding protection and safety through anti-slip additives. But how much will this really cost?

There are many factors that will go into your pricing and for simplicity sake, we will assume your hiring s professional company that does floors every day, not a painting company or jack of all trades who does them once in a while. There is a difference.

What is the current condition of the floor?

What is currently on their floor? Another coating? Sealer , paint etc, if there is a coating on the floor most likely it till need to be removed, adding costs

What is the condition of the floor? Do you have cracks? Divots, or spalling concrete?
That will in most cases need to be patched adding costs

What look do you want? A basic solid floor, a partial or full flaked floor? Metallic? Quartz? These all come with different price lines.

What will the floor be used for? A normal garage with a few cars? A working garage? A home shop? Each of these uses many require different products.

What is the turn around time you desire? When do you want to be back on the floor? A full cure is needed before you drive back on the floor, different products can shorten this time depending on use, but it adds cost.

Materials:

Materials are a huge part of the cost for epoxy floors: Material costs can vary between .75 cents a sq ft up to and over $10 a sq ft or more for specialty floors such as anti-static floors, metallics, etc. All adding cost

It is imperative you understand a good installed epoxy floor is not inexpensive but using the professional products you will get a long-lasting industrial grade floor.

You will have some companions come in saying they are using epoxy but when you dive into the datasheets you may see your actually getting a much thinner coating then what we offer, this is where they can lower costs and still tell you your receiving an epoxy floor, remember not all epoxy coatings are the same, they all will leave different levels of thickness when applied and appl have different uses. You need to ask how thick of a coating you will receive, you may receive some pricing that seems high at first but is actually more affordable than the cheaper price you received because you're getting a thicker coating. Thicker means better and long-lasting in epoxy terms (mills)

KNOW WHAT PRODUCTS ARE BEING USED

So how much does it cost? These are recent examples, your floor may be different

Atypical residential 2 car garage between 400-450 sq ft using a partial flake, with normal prep, quick easy grind, one coat high solid epoxy with flake and a clear topcoat many cost between $5-9 a sq ft

To remove a coating add another $1-3 a sq ft
T0 add a full flake prepare to Spears another $1-3 a sq ft
Add a second clear coat $2-3 sq ft
To use a metallic coating custom design prepare to spend between $8-$12 a sq ft

There is really no clear cut answer as there are so many options and the different materials and application techniques done

Painting The Interior Of Your Home

Painting The Interior Of Your Home

Painting The Interior Of Your Home
In painting the interior of our homes, most of us tend to procrastinate a lot, and this has to do with the fact that it gets really stressful when you have to select the ideal colors to make the home look appealing.
Most people tend to complain that choosing just one color gets tricky, and they cannot imagine the stress of picking colors for the entire interior painting.
Others have wondered if the colors they picked will match or where they can start with both the house painting and paint colors.
If you are going through similar stress and procrastination, then this is the place for you.

Steps In Choosing The Right Colors For The Home
It is finally time to get into painting the interior parts of your home, and you are lost as to the colors to select from. Well, some of the steps that can help you out include:
  • Take note of the rooms that are visible to each other
Here, you will have to walk all-around your home and take notes of the spaces that you can see from each of the rooms. Also, you can make use of a floor plan or probably a rough sketch to keep track of all this.
Furthermore, the adjoining rooms are included, although, with them, you may likely be able to see much farther like down the hall and even the kitchen.
These notes you are taking will be the ones to form the basis of the entire color plan for your house.
  • Select the color for the largest and centrally located room
After taking your notes, the next step is to pick out colors for the largest room in the home that is centrally located. This room is either your living room or the kitchen. These are the best places to begin the interior painting.
If you are stressed with the whole color picking, you can go for a soft and natural color for your main room. This makes selecting the colors to be used for painting easier and you know, you can never go wrong with white color.
  • Paint the room you want to have a bold color
For people who love colors a lot and actually have a particular one in mind when house painting, you can begin from a specific room you have in mind and this can be your bedroom.
Most of us love when our rooms are painted boldly and so, you can select from bold colors, and the next room can be painted with a softer color. However, two rooms next to one another can be painted with bold colors.
  • Have a plan when selecting colors for an open space
When your house is visible all at once, you must pick colors that go together. Here, you can make use of either dark shades or tints that are lighter, from the same color. This is sure to work well for houses with open spaces.
To Wrap It Up

While interior painting may not come off as so easy, following these steps will help you see the bigger picture in selecting the right colors. For your halls and even landings, you can go for beige and even white colors but, if you are using soft neutrals or white for your rooms then the halls should be painted with richer colors.
